Being as though the characters are sitting down on a sofa for the first scene, I wanted to test how I would tackle the effect of coushins depressing and inflating back to original size as someone sits down or stands up so the scene wouldn't look flat and boring. Obviously I would have to consider the materials of the sofa as it would be quite easy to create a modern looking sofa that doesn't compress much such as this one:
But wanted to test how easy it was to create a responsive one so I could create a comfy looking sofa if I wanted to.
This is the sofa in which I would want in the apartment so I will model this in the test scene and if it is a success I can import it to use in the animation:
I created a simple sofa with cushions to see how difficult it was to create a depression and it didn't seem that difficult! although the sofa I need to spend more time on to get proper measurements as I couldn't do it just from a photo. Here is a playblast
So the test was a success! Things I would improve though is the soft selection of the geometry to get a more accurate depression and the model of the sofa to be more accurate. But all in all it was a success so I will be able to create a sofa that fits with the décor of the apartment.
