sss skin

I wanted to explore a different method of skinning my character to stay clear of the sims style aesthetic. I will test the material sss fast skin to see what I can come up with to make my characters look more realistic.

I will start by exploring sss skinning on a simple object to learn its complexities.

I started by creating a small object that had a bit more definition than a sphere so I could see the differences in thickness

I then applied a simple image based lighting system and a few point lights.

Here is an added overall colour and some messing around with the settings inside the sss attributes compared to a simple blinn with a texture applied

I will need to start straight onto the character due to not knowing how the facial features will come up as you can see in this example the texture seems quite faded due to the sss skin material. But if I experiment with the scatter and weight levels I might be able get my result I'm looking for!
